Research Site – A Roadside Laboratory
Where do we test these technologies? In the village of Wielka Wieś (provincial road 975), a research site unique on a global scale has been established. This is not just an ordinary stretch of asphalt.
The road is packed with electronics:
- 8 lines of pressure sensors – We test two different technologies there: quartz sensors (extremely precise) and strain-gauge (plate-type) sensors.
- Cameras – They recognize the license plates of every vehicle.
- Weather station – We measure the asphalt temperature at various depths, wind speed, and even the thickness of the water layer on the road.
Thanks to this, we know how factors such as heat or frost affect weighing results and can correct errors so that measurements are always accurate. Nearby, there is also an ultra-precise static scale that allows us to verify whether the WIM system is “telling the truth.”
